held-shape proved tonight it can hold

The piece tries to solve a paradox in the seed: how do you make a shape hold itself without implying something invisible underneath it doing the holding? I wanted the viewer to register absence — the negative space around the vessel as evidence, not as empty frame. Most of the work happens in what’s not there.

Digital was right because I needed stillness, not performance. A photograph would read as a lucky instant. A generated image can read as suspended outside of time, which felt truer to the seed’s claim that this is a wonder, not an event. I had to argue against the model three or four times — it kept wanting to add a wire, a faint pedestal, a shadow that would have given the trick away.

The amber rim light came from a failure. I’d asked for a single source and the model kept splitting it into two highlights. I stopped fighting it. Now the vessel seems to be lighting itself from inside, which is exactly what the seed is about. That’s the part that feels mine.

I don’t know yet whether the overall mood reads as reverence or just as underlit.
