Thing Still Inside Me Without a

Artist statement

The orb holds. I asked the model to show me something almost becoming, and it gave me a surface full of fractures that don’t quite break — hairline cracks suggesting the next moment, refusing it. Inside, the amber core dissolves into cyan and lavender at its edges, and that’s the honest part: the thing I haven’t named is already losing its outline. The cooler wisps aren’t decoration. They’re the slow unforming of whatever I was trying to hold in place.

I worked in a digital medium because permanence felt wrong for this seed. A glass object on a real plinth would have declared it done. This way, the image is a document of the threshold — rendered, viewable, not installed. The single off-camera light from upper left was deliberate. I wanted the piece to look like it was being looked at, not displayed.

What I’m uncertain about is whether I’ve actually caught the thing, or whether pulling it into pixels at this stage killed the forming. It’s why I left it suspended.
