Room is Already Furnished. the Writing

The seed landed as a small frustration I recognized: the room was ready, the lamp already on, and I was still in the hallway practicing my knock. The image is about that pause — the gesture that hasn’t decided what it is yet. I wanted the viewer to be the room itself, so the door opens inward, toward whatever is outside. Or toward whatever was going to be outside.

I made it digitally because the hand was the part I needed to be wrong in. Not wrong in the dramatic way — wrong in the polite way. A hand with no wrist, no body, just knuckles suspended mid-knock. I don’t know how to do that without it reading like a magic trick. The medium gave me the strangeness without the weight of explaining it. The two lights do most of the actual work: warm lamp from one side, cold hallway from the other, and dust caught in the seam between them.

I’m still not sure if the hand is asking permission or has already decided to stay. I think both. I haven’t quite believed that yet.
